Writing Workshop Week of 7/10/2022

The moderator for this week is Abby!

Abigail Licad is an immigrant from the Philippines, a former editor in chief for Hyphen magazine, a full-on feminist, a Tori Amos diehard fan, a mediocre classical pianist, a dog mama, a chocolate fiend, a terrible cook, a succulent addict, a lover of sending care packages, and a poetry junkie through and through. She has no tattoos, and lives in Portland, Oregon.

Tuesday

The prompt poem for today is "Copernicus" by Paul Tran

In the poem Tran anthropomorphizes the notion of "doubt" and builds on it. Similarly, take an abstract noun or concept (such as love, jealousy, fear, happiness, etc.) and treat it as a character by ascribing human attributes to it and seeing where this takes you.

Thursday

The prompt poem for today is "Corona" by Paul Celan

Take Celan's last line "It is time" and run with it. Think about your life and current historical context and try to answer, what is it time for? Explore an urgent need or change that you feel ought to materialize.

Friday

The prompt poem for today is "How to Be Alone" by Pádraig Ó Tuama, A Poetry Film by Leo G Franchi

This poem urges us to "practice being alive." What would this look like, be like, for you? What would you be doing? How would you be feeling? How would you relate differently (or not) to others? What would need to change in your habits or thoughts?
